We will not have Mass this Wednesday evening, but students in grades 5-12 will gather for our meal (a cheesy chicken, broccoli, and rice casserole) at 6:30 p.m. After we eat, intermediate/junior high students will discuss how to read the Bible in its historical context, while high school students will look at the lives of Saints Peter and Paul. The holy season of Lent begins this Wednesday (March 6). We will celebrate a Liturgy of the Word and the Signing with Ashes at 7 a.m. in the church. Celebrations of the Holy Eucharist and the Signing with Ashes will be at 12:15 and 6 p.m. in the church. Please remember that Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting (one full meal and two small meals) and abstinence (no meat).

You may choose to attend the group that will meet at noon (with pizza) or the group that will meet at 7 p.m. (with desserts). Both groups will meet in meeting Room C.
This past week, Pope Francis made an historic visit to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, the first time a pope has travelled to the Arabian Peninsula. While there, he met with Ahmad Al-Tayyib, the Great Imam of Al-Azhar, and together they signed a document entitled A Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together. As Pope Francis said, this document "... invites all persons who have faith in God and faith in human fraternity to unite and work together." All parishioners ages 60 and older are invited to join us this Friday at 1 p.m. in the parish hall for a potluck luncheon and an afternoon of bingo. Cash prizes will return this week for all bingo winners! Please bring a main dish, a side dish, or dessert to share with everyone.
Beginning on Sunday, February 17, adults are welcome to join us in the adult education classroom (room 4) for a 6-part video series and discussion entitled "Entering the Passion of Jesus" featuring Amy-Jill Levine, a renowned New Testament professor at Vanderbilt University. The class will begin each week at 10:20 a.m.
The first kolache bake is scheduled for this Thursday (February 14) from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the parish hall kitchen. Mary Knox and Amanda Lawson will be leading us as we prepare 1,000 homemade kolaches to serve with this year's Czech Sausage dinner. Join us to learn and help us with this process!
OOur new weekend Mass schedule will take effect next weekend (February 2 & 3). The new Mass times are: Saturday evening at 6 p.m., Sunday morning at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Faith Formation classes will meet on Sunday mornings from 10:20-11:15 a.m. RCIA will meet on Sundays beginning at 12:45 p.m. Sacrament of Penance: the weekly schedule in each Sunday bulletin will list the day and time this opportunity will be offered each week. The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a 5K and 10K Run/Walk this Saturday (February 16) at 9 a.m. The early registration fee (before 6 p.m. on Friday, February 15) is $25. Late registration is $30. Checks are payable to Knights of Columbus #7840.
The 28th annual Czech Sausage Dinner will be on Sunday, March 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parish hall (605 38th Street). Adult meal tickets are $10 each and children's meal tickets are $5 each. The meal features Czech sausage, sauerkraut, bread, parsley potatoes, green beans and all the trimmings. The dinner will includes a drive-through, with takeouts available.
