Baptism

The Catholic community strongly believes that every child is a gift from God — no exceptions!  When you have your child baptized in the Catholic Church, you are giving thanks and seeking that they be included and welcomed into the family of God, the Church. You are also making them recipients of God’s promised grace and God’s offer of salvation. Needless to say, a Christian baptism is not just a ceremony or a tradition. It is a serious commitment on the part of parents and godparents as well as the entire Christian community to do all that is necessary to follow through with our promises to God and the child to raise them in the light of Christ through our own example of faith. 

We have recently modified some of our parish registration procedures for those desiring the grace of new life for their child(ren) by having them baptized. Some requirements for Baptism cannot be modified as they are stipulated in the universal expectations of the Church. Please be attentive, however, to the process for registering and preparing for Baptism that is unique to St. Ann’s and, as of November 1, changed:

• Those interested in Baptism should take and read one of the BAPTISM @ St. Ann’s handouts located in the church narthex and near the parish office or printable from the parish’s website: stannsofcanyon.org. These handouts disclose pertinent information, steps, and expectations of the Church generally and the parish specifically.

• To schedule a Baptism, parent(s) should attend a Baptism Welcome Session held after each weekend Mass on every third Sunday of the month in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. This includes after the Saturday evening Vigil Mass. Prospective godparents for baptisms at St. Ann’s or another parish and are members of St. Ann’s should also attend a Baptism Welcome Session.

• Baptism information forms and/or godparent forms will be distributed and filled out by participants at the Baptism Welcome Session after some preliminary instructions from the parish staff.

• Depending on the circumstances, parents and godparents will be directed to watch an online course on Baptism and then come to a “Reborn” Catechetical Session at the announced time.

Some parents and godparents who have already participated in the parish’s Baptism preparation process and are actively living their faith will be exempted from this requirement.

• Dates and times will for each Baptism will be discussed at the “Reborn” Session or confirmed by the parish staff beforehand.
